Walnut — Privacy Policy

Summary: Data Not Collected. Walnut is a fully on-device app. It has no user account, no backend server, no analytics, and no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs. Your content stays on your device unless you choose to back it up to your own personal cloud.

1. Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the Walnut mobile application ("Walnut", "the app", "we") on iOS and Android. By using Walnut you agree to this policy.

2. Information we collect

None. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. Walnut has no login and no server that could receive your data. All documents, images, videos, notes, checklists, cards, links, extracted text, transcripts, and reminders you create are stored locally on your device.

3. On-device processing

Text recognition (OCR), transcription, search indexing, and reminder scheduling all run entirely on your device. No content is sent to us or to any third party for processing.

4. Permissions

Walnut requests the following permissions only when a feature needs them, and uses them solely on your device:

Camera — to scan documents or capture media.
Photo Library — to import photos and videos you select.
Microphone — to record voice notes (transcribed on device).
Notifications — to deliver the due-date reminders you set.

You can decline or revoke any of these in your device settings; related features simply won't be available.

5. Backups (optional, your own cloud)

If you enable backup, Walnut writes an encrypted-at-rest-by-your-OS copy of your data to your own iCloud Drive / Files (iOS) or Google Drive / Files (Android). This backup resides in your personal cloud account under your control. We have no servers and never access, receive, or store your backup. Managing or deleting that backup is done through your cloud provider.

6. No tracking or advertising

Walnut contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking identifiers (no IDFA), and no third-party SDKs that collect data. We do not build profiles or track you across apps or websites.

7. Children's privacy

Walnut does not collect data from anyone, including children. Because nothing is collected or transmitted, no personal information of children (or adults) is gathered.

8. Data retention & deletion

Your data lives on your device for as long as you keep it. Deleting an item moves it to Recently Deleted with a 30-day restore window. Uninstalling the app removes its on-device data. Any backup you created can be deleted from your own cloud storage at any time.

9. Security

Data is protected by your device's built-in encryption. Walnut also offers an optional App Lock (Face ID / Touch ID / passcode) to gate access to the app and your secure cards.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the effective date above.
