Support

Need help with Walnut? We're happy to assist. Walnut is a fully on-device, privacy-first document vault — there's no account and no cloud service, so most questions are about the app itself.

We aim to reply within 2–3 business days.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data private?
Yes. Walnut is 100% on-device. There is no account, no server, no analytics, and no third-party tracking. Your documents, notes, and cards never leave your phone unless you choose to back them up to your own cloud (iCloud Drive / Files).
How does search work?
Walnut reads the text inside your photos and scans using on-device OCR (text recognition) and transcription. You can then search by any word — across document names, extracted text, transcripts, and your notes — with no internet connection required.
How do reminders work?
Add a due date to any document (e.g. insurance, warranty, passport). Walnut schedules local notifications and can even suggest a due date it reads from the document. You can set up to three alert offsets (on the day, 1 week before, 2 weeks before).
How do I back up my data?
On iOS, Walnut can back up to your own iCloud Drive. The backup is stored in your personal cloud — it never touches our servers (we don't have any). Open Settings → Backup and tap Back up now, or enable auto-backup.
How do I restore on a new phone?
Install Walnut on the new device, sign in to the same iCloud account, then open Settings → Backup → Restore. Walnut will pull your latest backup from your iCloud Drive. Restores resume automatically if interrupted.
What is App Lock / Face ID?
You can optionally protect the app with Face ID / Touch ID / passcode under Settings → App Lock, with an auto-lock timeout. Secure cards (IDs, card numbers) are kept behind this lock.
What file types can I save?
Photos, videos, PDFs, documents and spreadsheets, voice notes (transcribed on device), rich-text notes, checklists, secure cards, and links. You can save single items or whole multi-image collections.
The app asked for Camera / Photos / Microphone / Notifications — why?
All permissions are optional and requested only when needed: Camera to scan, Photos to import, Microphone to record voice notes, and Notifications to deliver reminders. Everything is processed locally on your device.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting an item moves it to Recently Deleted (30-day restore). To remove everything, delete the app — because all data is on-device, uninstalling removes your local content. Any backup you created lives in your own iCloud Drive and can be deleted from there.
